Given triangle ABC with A(5, -6), B(4, 0), and C(3, -4), find the coordinates of the centroid, circumcenter, and orthocenter. Then, find the equation of the Euler Line.

Repeat the process for triangle DEF with D(7, 3) E(-5, -6) and F(-11, -8).

so where are we meeting this weekend? my parents said we could have my house and order pizza, but i have a black lab so if anyone has problems with dogs or just big dogs sorry. My parents said they will even leave for the day so we can have quiet study time *cough cough* ( no party, sorry)

Hey everyone! Post the coordinates for the centers that you get and the equations for your Euler lines so that we can compare answers!

I don't know about you guys, but I got some really funky numbers. What does everyone think?

For ABC, I got:

Circumcenter: (1/5, 46/5)
Centroid: (4, -10/3)
Orthocenter: (-3/5, -23/5)

Equation for the Euler line:
y= -23/3x - 148/3

Anyone confirm or disagree?

Well I Got The Same Centriod And Now Im Doing The Circumcenter But The Equation I Have For Now Is Kinda Weird.. For The First Equation I Goy Y = X - 9 And For The Second I Got Y = 1/4X - 3.
Is That Right??

for the centroid i got the same answer, but for the other ones i got weird answers, so i will go over them to see if i did something wrong.

Andrea, for the centroid, I did get y=x-9 as the perp. bisector for CA, but as the perp. bisector for BC, my equation was y= -1/4x + 5/2.

Why Is It Y= 1/4 + 5/2??
I Got Y + 2 = -1/4 (X - 7/2). I Might Have Solved It Wrong

hey everybody this is tiffany... this is what i got for triangle ABC

centroid: (4,-10/3)
circumcenter: (47/5, 12/5)
orthocenter: (-3/5, -23/5)

Euler Line: y= 1/2x- 43/50

yes, your answers might be "weird" as we made up the problems on the go. Hence, they may not work out to something very pretty at all. In fact, the numbers you guys get might actually be pretty ugly (rubbing my hands together with a smile on my face). We don't discriminate against ugly numbers.

i love u miss chan but these answers are beyond ugly their hideous lol
hey u guyz i got some funky answers also

Iam sorry...... I should have picked (0,0)!!!!!

Andrea, your answers may be different than mine because you used a different set of two lines than I did to find the circumcenter. Like I may have used BC and CA but you may have used BC and CB.

Ok, for triangle DEF this is what I got: some absolutely, positively, hidiously disgusting numbers.

Centroid: (-3, -11/3)
Circumcenter: (-84/5, 97/5)
Orthocenter: (118/5, -264/5)

Equation for Euler Line:

y= 346/297x + 709/99

Eurgh!!!

Ms. Chan... I do discriminate against ugly numbers.

ok..so yeah i just got home alittle ago and i totally forgot how to find the midpoint...i feel so dumb right not. so yeah can some help? thanks

The Midpoint Is x1+x2 Divided By Two And Then y1+y2 Divided By Two.

Well I Got..

Centriod (4/-10/3)
Circumcenter (29/5,-34/5)
Orthocenter (5/8,77/8)

Messy Numbers I know I will check them over.

Gyaah. Yes. This afternoon wasn't as peachy as it usually is so I just started homework around ten. ~.~;; And all these different answers around here are starting to freak me out. XD;; Like Keenan, I'm so sorry for not even thinking about using a zero!

I'm having a controversy for the perpendicular bisector of BC. I know its slope is -1/4 and it passes through point (7/2, -2), but I keep getting different equations.

On my first try, my point-slope form was y+2=-1/4(x-7/2). So me thinking, 'Hey, you! Yeah, you. You friggin' hate fractions! Get rid o' 'em!'. So I multiplied everything by four to get: 4y+8=-1(4x-14)

4y+8=-4x+14
4y+8-8=-4x+14-8
4y=-4x+6 [Divide everything by four]

y=-x+6/4 or y=-x+3/2

So I redid it without multiplying the point-slope form by four because there were so many different answers.

y+2=-1/4(x-7/2)
y+2=-1/4x+7/8
y+2-2=-1/4x+7/8-2
y=-1/4x-9/8

I highly doubt anyone would still be online and awake. >.<;; But help is mucho appreciated. ;_; Thank you in advance.

Sincerely Mentally Suffering,
--Mary.

P.S. I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow and notice whatever silly mistake I made. X_x; But please help me spot it. It's really hard to check your own math calculations.
